Job responsibilities
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and lead on the implementation of the technical strategy that will enable the implementation of the organisations BI strategy.
- Work with the BI Programme to support and design, build, develop and maintain the Business Intelligence solutions.
- Provide technical knowledge to support projects.
- Transfer the knowledge to the information teams.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to managers of new and existing clinical services about structures required to support reporting and analytics.
- Expert leader for SQL Server Data Warehouse Design, Development and Administration.
- Line management of two staff.
OTHER DUTIES
Working with the Digital Directorate team, implement the new BI programme including data mart enhancement to support dashboards development and implementation.
Working with the team this lead is responsible for the on-going maintenance and design of the BI data tier.
Key areas are expertise include:
Current BI tools:
- SQL Server Data Warehouse Design, Administration and Security.
- Microsoft Visual Studio.
- SQL Server Integration Services.
- SQL Server Master Data Services (may include C# ASP API enhancements).
- Qlik (and associated components and extensions)
- Model integration with Kimball Data Warehouse Star Schema.
- SQL Server Reporting Services.
- Machine learning (AI) tools
Strategy Development.
- Develop a BI technical strategy that supports the delivery of the organisations BI (MI) strategy through the definition and selection of the relevant architectural components.
- Ensure that the strategy aligns with the SCAS overall all digital strategy.
- Ensure that the relevant policies and procedures are in place to ensure that the infrastructure operates in an efficient and effective manner
Data Warehouse Management (Data Tier)
- Support the development of a robust and effective Data Warehouse to underpin the reporting tier in Qlik.
- Ensure the SQL server architecture for the Data Warehouse is resilient and that all disaster recovery objectives are met and fully automated.
- Ensure that data warehouse server patches and other relevant updates are applied database administration requires.
- Work with colleagues from departments that hold key SCAS data to develop the data warehouse into a true corporate repository for decision support.
- Ensure that the data warehouse is capable of supporting the business day to day requirements.
- Lead the integration efforts for merging BI platforms with enterprise systems and applications.
- Design, code, test, and document all new or modified BI systems using appropriate industry standard principles.
- Develop the semantic layer metadata, to support reports and report definitions.
- Design data warehouses to ensure interoperability with reporting tier.
- Work with other Business Intelligence colleagues and organisational Stakeholders to convert Product Backlog items into effective data marts that support reports and analytics
Business intelligence and reporting
- Lead the development of Data Marts to support business intelligence (operational performance, clinical, finance, HR etc)
- Lead the development of business intelligence tools that provide a single consistent and comprehensive view of information.
- Promote the use of business intelligence tools and support and encourage colleagues in how they can be used to improve services.
Project management
- Liaise with Business Intelligence colleagues, senior managers, other colleagues clinical directorates, and partner agencies to ensure the data warehouse contains information that reflects stakeholder priorities and maximises value.
- Ensure measures in each data mart give real insight into organisational performance.
- Include national and local targets and performance measures.
Strategic Development
- In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Business Intelligence develop a strategic vision of how SCAS use of information and business intelligence will evolve
Communications
- Work with Stakeholders through appropriate channels to convert requirements to working data mart using AGILE principles.
- Work with partner agencies and commissioners, through appropriate channels, to develop a joint understanding of information needs using AGILE principles.
- Support and encourage colleagues about the benefits that information and analysis can bring to improving services.
Staff Line Management.
- Line manage staff in line with SCAS requirements including, but not limited to completion of PDRs, staff performance management, ensuring Statutory and Mandatory training requirements are met, ensure staff are able to undertake education and gain experience that allows them to develop their careers.
