We are looking to recruit Ambulance Nurses to work as independent clinicians on our frontline ambulances and cars responding to 999 calls at the following stations:

North East- High Wycombe, Wexham

North North - Milton Keynes, Stoke Mandeville

North West - Adderbury, Didcot, Kidlington, Oxford

North South- Newbury, Reading, Bracknell

South North- Alton, Andover, Whitchurch, Basingstoke

South East- North Harbour, Petersfield

South West- Hythe, Nursling

Our next cohort will start on 30th May 2023 at our education centre in Whiteley, Hampshire, once this cohort is full any further successful candidates will be offered a place on the following cohorts starting on 30th October 2023 in Newbury and Whiteley.

The course consists of the following:

  • 1-week Induction
  • 4-week Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving course
  • 5-week Classroom based clinical course
  • 6-week Clinical Placement with Work-Based Assessments
  • Followed by a 4-month 'preceptorship' period

Throughout the course there will be a number of assessments including OSCEs, driving, manual handling, Applied Knowledge Test and final portfolio assessment.

Main duties of the job

As an Ambulance Nurse you will working as the clinician on an ambulance with a Emergency Care Assistant or Associate Ambulance Practitioner and be accountable for the assessment, treatment, diagnosis, supplying and administering of medicines, scene management, discharging and referring patients in a range of urgent and emergency presentations in out of hospital settings.

You will be providing effective clinical leadership, development and mentorship to operational personnel, including newly qualified paramedics and students to support the delivery of a high-quality patient centred service.

All you need is:

  • To be a Registered Nurse (Adult or Children's) on the NMC register
  • Have 2-years post-registration experience ideally (but not essential) in an Emergency Department, Critical Care or Acute Medical Assessment
  • RCUK or Trust Immediate Life Support certificate or other post-registration learning
  • A full valid UK driving licence (including Category B and C1 with no more than 3 points). You must have as a minimum a Provisional C1 on your licence by the time you are invited to a driving assessment.

Essential

  • A full valid manual UK driving licence (including Category B and Category C1 - over 3500kg, with no more than 3 points. (You must have as a minimum a provisional C1 on your licence in order for your application to be shortlisted). We will consider applications that have up to 3 points dependent on the nature of the offence. Any offence relating to drink / drugs showing on the licence will be considered on an individual basis. Within the latest amendment to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 s. 89(1), Magistrates now have the power to issue a SHORT DISCRETIONARY DISQUALIFICATION (SDD) (driving licence ban) for events of speeding that are considered to have been above the pre-set guidelines for sentencing within the Magistrates guidelines. In regard to the SCAS recruitment process, any applicants that have received a short ban of this type would NOT be eligible to have their application progressed until the ban was completely free from their licence (3 years after the conviction)
