Job summary
Are you a dynamic, proactive, focused, caring individual, looking to work in the fast-paced pre-hospital environment? If so, then South Central Ambulance Service's (SCAS') Associate Ambulance Practitioner (AAP) Apprenticeship may be for you.
Training will commence on 1st January 2024 from our Central Training Location (Newbury) and please note your full C1 entitlement will be required prior to this date.
Please note we have limited spaces available on this course; therefore, available spaces will be allocated based on interview scores so despite you successfully passing all assessment elements won't guarantee you a space on this apprenticeship unfortunately.
If you clearly demonstrate that you meet the essential criteria, then we will invite you to an assessment. This will include a lifting assessment, interview, and a driving assessment in a large, manual, van-sized vehicle and whilst we will provide as many possible assessment dates we will request that these are completed by 2nd September 2023.
Upon commencement of this role, you will be allocated a station. With the following areas available - Milton Keynes, Stoke Mandeville, Wexham, High Wycombe, Kidlington, Didcot, Newbury, Reading and Bracknell.
Please be aware there are stations with limited availability & our current vacancies at these stations are subject to change.
Main duties of the job
AAPs work in a challenging but rewarding role providing urgent, emergency and social care to patients in the pre-hospital environment.
The apprenticeship is 18-months in duration. Following initial induction and driver training at one of our education centres, apprentices will undertake a mixture of continued classroom education and deployment within our Frontline 999 Operational Teams working towards the Level 4 Diploma for Associate Ambulance Practitioners. During these operational deployments, apprentices will work alongside qualified clinicians responding to urgent and emergency calls, developing their AAP skills, knowledge and behaviours whilst consolidating practice through completion of an apprenticeship portfolio. At the end of the 18-month apprenticeship, apprentices will undertake an End Point Assessment.
Driving is an essential skill for this role, so you will need a full C1 or C1 provisional category manual driving licence at the point of application with no more than 3 penalty points.
We are looking for people who can demonstrate our values of Caring, Teamwork, Professionalism, and Innovation in all that they do. So, if you have experience of remaining calm under pressure, can demonstrate your caring and compassionate nature and don't mind working shifts then we would love to hear from you.
Once qualified, AAPs work alongside other frontline members of staff, responding to emergency and urgent calls, often as the lead clinician
