The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is an 16 bedded Level 2 Unit within the Thames Valley Neonatal Network. Comprising of; 2 Intensive Care 4 High Dependency and 10 Special Care cots. We provide highly skilled neonatal care. We provide a 6 bedded Transitional care unit within the post-natal ward primarily run by the neonatal nursing team with a TC Lead and consultant support.We are a large and very friendly team which prides itself on offering excellent care to the vulnerable babies on the unit. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, innovative and highly skilled Neonatal Nurse to join our team in the capacity of Trainee Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practioner. Within the Neonatal team we provide expert clinical care whilst optimizing patient outcomes and contributing to a positive family experience. ANNP's currently work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to promote skilled excellence in neonatal care, training and education, unit initiatives, supporting the medical rota, developing staff and play a key part in service development. The successful candidate will be a dedicated clinical expert with evidence of competence in extended skills. They need to have a passion for high quality patient care within neonates, well-developed communication & relationship skills and a positive, mature and professional attitude. Furthermore the successful individual must be committed to the trust values and support our strategic objectives.
Main duties of the job
The Trainee ANNP would commence training in September 2026. They would not start their post until this time. If qualified, the post would be available for an immediate start.
The ANNP has a key working relationship with all members of nursing, midwifery, AHP, medical staff and members of the multidisciplinary team involved in the care of patients.The ANNP bridges the professional and clinical boundaries between nursing/midwifery/AHP and medical care often enabling them to take on the role and responsibilities formerly undertaken by medical practitioners. The ANNP practices both autonomously and in partnership with the multidisciplinary team under the clinical supervision provided by a Consultant and/or Team Leader. The post holder will use collaborative and independent judgement to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement, manage and evaluate clinical nursing/midwifery/AHP and medical care and management of patients. The ANNP will take a lead in the on-going assessment, investigations, procedures, treatment and management of patients in their speciality area.The ANNP works within the multidisciplinary team to deliver advanced clinical skills, clinical leadership and provides clinical supervision/support and structured teaching and mentorship for multidisciplinary professionals (including medical staff) to facilitate on-going education, training and development.

Apply comprehensive knowledge, clinical reasoning and decision-making skills to instigate, evaluate and interpret pertinent routine investigations.
Perform a comprehensive assessment and initiate appropriate pharmacological therapies applying critical knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and polypharmacy.
For ANNPs authorised to prescribe therapeutic medications and treatments, and after approval from the Trusts Independent & Supplementary Prescribing Lead, the ANNP will prescribe medications safely and effectively in line with their scope of practice, utilising local or organisational guidelines, national guidelines, and adhering to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Prescribing Standards, and those of the NMC.
