Main duties of the job
This is a part-time (5PA) post to enhance the care of patients with MS at the Royal Berkshire hospital. The appointee will be expected to develop systems for the provision and monitoring of patients on DMTs, and to optimize all MS-related patient pathways for safety and efficiency. The appointee will be expected to work closely with the regional MS service based in Oxford, to develop appropriate pathways for the most complex patients, and to prepare for the introduction of new therapies region-wide if and when they become available.
The role also includes dedicated time for participation in clinical research. The appointee will be expected to establish the local clinical infrastructure required for recruitment of patients into commercial clinical trials of MS therapies, with the expectation that Reading patients will be routinely given the opportunity to take part in research.

We adopt in a team-based approach to the management of complex neurological patients, exemplified by an hour-long case-review meeting every Thursday morning attended by the consultants and junior doctors, and a joint neuro-radiology meeting each Thursday evening. During these meetings, all inpatients under review are discussed and there is an opportunity to seek advice about, or share experience of interesting or difficult outpatient cases.
