Maternity Care Assistant (delivery suite)

Job summary

The post holder will provide high quality essential care to patients within maternity services under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered practitioner;

Acting always in the patient's best interests, in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner

Providing individualised care for a diverse group of patients, respecting personal beliefs and preferences.

Alerting the registered practitioner and or ward lead/Matron to any change or concern relating to the welfare of the patient, in a timely manner.

Undertake specific clinical skills relevant to the clinical area following training and assessment of competence; e.g. performing venepuncture, observations or escorting patients

Providing enhanced levels of care to patients requiring additional supervision and support, ensuring their personal safety and wellbeing needs are met

Providing supervision, mentoring and guidance to new, junior or less-experienced staff

The primary role of the Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centred care.

Main duties of the job

Working mainly on the main high risk delivery suite but also involves shifts on the midwifery led birthing centre:

supporting the midwifery staff in essential care roles in the intrapartum areas

support and attendance at births, essential roles in obstetric emergencies, assists with immediate care of mum and baby post delivery, support in initiating infant feeding.

Ensuring safe stocking on delivery suite, equipment checks
