Job summary
The post holder will assist in the smooth running of the Infection Prevention & Control department, will provide or seek out clinical and managerial advice to nursing and support staff throughout the trust relating to prevention and control of healthcare and communicable infections
The post holder works as a skilled practitioner and will be responsible for the development and delivery of an effective Infection Prevention & Control audit and surveillance programme focusing on alert organisms.

Job responsibilities
- Support the Infection Control Lead Nurse and the team to deliver infection prevention and control service. Work flexibly to support other/more junior colleagues on a day-to-day basis.
- Assists the development and delivery of an effective Infection control audit and surveillance programme and ensures that they reflect best evidence and practice.
- Contribute to the ongoing surveillance and monitoring of alert organisms and ensure that appropriate actions are taken in relation to patient management and the prevention of cross infection.
- To assist and support other team members in the Surgical Site Infection surveillance (SSI) and other local/national audit initiatives.
- To undertake environmental, hand hygiene and other audits as required.
- To assist in the collation, data input and analysis of audit and surveillance results, preparation of reports and dissemination of information to the trust.
- Assist in the development and delivery of Infection Prevention and Control training across all staff groups within the trust
- Demonstrate excellent personal communication. Establish and maintain effective two-way communication channels with individuals and groups. Demonstrate appropriate assertiveness and ability to challenge others when the rights of patients and others may be infringed, or poor practice is observed.
- Actively promote excellent team working and interdisciplinary relationships, and develop these relationships when undertaking Infection prevention and control activities.
- Work with Ward / Department Managers/ Care Group Matrons and the other members of the infection control team to ensure that action plans arising from audit and surveillance results are developed and worked through, provide clear feedback to departments and team members in a relevant and appropriate manner.
- Assist the Ward/ Department managers to maintain high standards of cleanliness and standards of practice in the clinical area and for a well maintained ward / department environment.
- Promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at delivering optimal patient care
- Actively promote diversity, including race diversity, both in the delivery of the Directorate's services and in the recruitment, management and development of staff within the clinical area. Assist the Ward/ Department Manager to sustain relationships that promote dignity, rights and responsibilities. Identify and take action to address discrimination and oppression.
