Band 8C Deputy Head of Radiation Protection
The post holder will acts as Deputy to the Head of Radiation Protection and be responsible for supporting the Head of Radiation Protection in the running and providing a comprehensive radiation protection and radiological physics service to the NHS and private hospitals.
In particular, to oversee on a day to day basis the programme of diagnostic radiology and radiation protection operations as described below and service development improvements.
The post holder should hold RPA certificate and a RWA certificate (or be working towards one), with the aim of deputising as a Trust RWA.
Main duties of the job
In addition the post holder act as deputy Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 [IRR17], and act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 [IRMER2017], with key responsibilities as set out below.
He/she will scientifically directs colleagues, technical staff and trainee(STP) and work at a senior professional level, providing advice and services to employers and staff at all levels, facilitating compliance with ionising radiation legislation.
Issues are specialist, extremely varied and highly complex. He/she operates with a high degree of autonomy, especially when deputising for the Section Leader.

The Radiation Protection Service aims to ensure the safety of all patients, staff and visitors who come into contact with ionising or non-ionising radiation.
Services provided are Trust-wide, and include services to other nearby NHS and private hospitals.
The Department provides a wide range of services including provision of Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) for the Trust including Radioactive Waste Advisor (RWA), Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Diagnostic Radiology, Laser Protection Advisor (LPA), MR Safety Expert (MRSE) and safety advisor for Ultrasound and Phototherapy. The Service provides advice and training to users of ionising and non-ionising radiation.
