Falls Clinical Specialist Practitioner - Secondment 12 Months (Maternity Cover) - Internal Only
The Royal Berkshire Hospital is seeking a dedicated Falls Practitioner to support the prevention and management of falls across the hospital. In this vital role, you will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to assess patients' fall risks, implement prevention strategies, and ensure patient safety and quality of care are maintained to the highest standards. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with expertise in falls prevention or elderly care to contribute to improving patient outcomes and fostering independence.
Main duties of the job
As a Falls Practitioner, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive falls risk assessments for patients.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate personalised fall prevention care plans.
- Provide specialist advice to patients, families, and carers to promote awareness and safety.
- Deliver education and training sessions for staff to enhance falls prevention practices across the hospital.
- Act as a key point of contact for falls prevention and management, providing expert advice to the multidisciplinary team.
- Analyse falls-related data, contributing to quality improvement initiatives and audits.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nursing teams, to provide holistic patient care.

Education/ Qualifications/ Experience:
Essential
- Registered Nurse or AHP
- Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level / able to demonstrate evidence that is working at degree level/ commenced degree pathway.
- Substantial Post Registration experience in falls prevention including experience at band 6 or above
- Evidence of post registration development and relevant course or willing to undertake further training in specialist area.
- Leadership course or evidence of Leadership skills
Desirable
- Wide ranging experience of working at an advanced level with patients
Skills & Abilities
Essential
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills with particular ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary team members and work with people with diverse health, social and language needs. Need to be comfortable with using/working with interpreters.
- Must have excellent skills in organising and prioritising workload whilst maintaining a high standard of care and meeting individual patient needs in line with set national guidelines.
- Demonstrates excellent team working but also has the ability to work autonomously
- Experience of teaching at pre and post registration, members of the public and other stakeholders.

- Experience of involvement in successful change management
- Experience of audit.
