Band 6 - Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Following permanent investment into the Adult Speech and Language Therapy service at Royal Berkshire Hospital we are excited to advertise this B6 post as part of the wider Speech and Language Therapy service to patients with head and neck cancer, across Reading and West Berkshire.

You will be joining a team of 4 ( 3 WTE SLT's and 1wte SLTA) enthusiastic and dedicated clinicians providing this service who are well respected and integrated within the MDT.

Main duties of the job

This post is primarily based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and will include attendance at outlying MDT clinics at Townlands Hospital in Henley-on Thames. You will be participating in

  • Managing the laryngectomy caseload and for supporting the laryngectomy valve change clinic as part of the wider Head and Neck Cancer SLT team,
  • Managing own therapy caseload as identified via MDT pathways, direct referrals into the service
  • With B7 colleagues supporting patients undergoing radiotherapy, working closely with MDT colleagues at the Berkshire Cancer Centre
  • With B7 colleagues attending joint clinics with Oncology and ENT Consultants.
  • Management of acute admissions of Head and Neck cancer patients
  • Supporting instrumental assessment clinics as competencies allow

Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent licence to practice
  • Registered member of RCSLT
  • Registered member of HCPC

CPD

Essential

  • Evidence of Dysphagia competencies at level C, such as RCSLT framework or attendance at relevant courses
  • Evidence of successful post-graduate study through CPD portfolio

Previous Experience

Essential

  • At least two years post graduate experience
  • Experience of MDT working
  • Changing own practice in response to evidence

Desirable

  • Relevant specialist experience post qualification
  • Developing and delivery training packages to other disciplines, carers and service users

Skills

Essential

  • Well established knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to the specialist area
  • Knowledge of standards of record keeping

Desirable

  • Awareness of other relevant policies including Vulnerable adult/other relevant legal frameworks.
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance/audit including RCSLT clinical guidelines
