We are pleased to offer this exciting opportunity to come and join our team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. We are looking to employ a skilled, dynamic, and forward-thinking individual as an Experienced Rheumatology Physiotherapist. The job will involve working with Rheumatology patients in the outpatient musculoskeletal physiotherapy setting.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for the efficient, effective and safe physiotherapeutic management of patients within RBFT.
  • To receive referrals and independently assess and treat own caseload of patients, ensuring evaluation and progression of treatment programmes to a high standard, and in line with National and Trust clinical guidelines, protocols and pathways where they exist
  • To have clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and prioritise that work efficiently taking into account clinical and service priorities, using clinical knowledge to underpin decisions
  • To formulate and deliver specialist individual physiotherapy treatment programmes for MSK and Rheumatology patients based on clinical knowledge of current practice, evidence based practice and treatment options, using clinical assessment and reasoning skills.
  • To have knowledge of a range of treatment skills relevant to the management of patient's conditions, including transfer assessments, function, and provision of advice, education and support. To provide physiotherapy to patients individually, or as a group
  • To use theoretical and practical knowledge to advice, guide and teach peers in the assessment and management of patients and other aspects of clinical care, including record keeping.

About us

The Therapy Service at the Royal Berkshire Hospital are supported by the Networked Care Board. It is a progressive and forward-thinking service which has close working partnerships with Rheumatology, Orthopaedics, and wider therapy teams.

More specifically, the Rheumatology therapy service at the Royal Berkshire Hospital is line managed by the MSK Outpatient Therapy team although is led by the Advanced Practitioner in Rheumatology. The wider MSK team consists of therapists spread across Rheumatology, Orthopaedics (both inpatients and Outpatients) and Pelvic Health.

The Rheumatology therapy team consists of an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (Band 8a), 1 Experienced Physiotherapist (Band 6) and an Occupational Therapist (B7). There are also B6 and B5 therapists working within the Outpatient team and a B3 Physiotherapy assistant - all of whom may support with treating Rheumatology patients. The MSK Outpatient reception team look after the booking of the outpatient patients. The team is also committed to encouraging students through the department.
