Senior Medical Laboratory Assistant
The Cellular Pathology department has a vacancy for a Medical Laboratory Assistant within the Histology department at band 3.This is a busy department, with a workload of 55,000 Histology specimens per annum, and 4,000 non-Gynae specimens, performing a wide rangeof Immunohistochemistry techniques and OSNA. We have full UKAS accreditation. Located at the University of Reading on the White Knights Campus we are merged with the Wexham Park Hospital Histology lab as part of Berkshire Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS).
We are looking for a candidate who is a competent and versatile individual with excellent team working and communication skills and must beable to work with accuracy at all times.Previous experience in a Histology environment is not essential as training will be given but would be an advantage.We very much encourage personal development and so if you're looking for a challenge, are versatile and can adapt to rapidly changingscenarios then this could be the job for you. We are a lively bunch and have various social events throughout the year.
Main duties of the job
Main duties include loading slides on to scanning machines for digital viewing. Will also rotate through specimen reception, assisting scientific and medical staff in filing blocks and slides, receiving, and stock controlling and making upchemical solutions. Assisting office staff with material for sending away and pulling material for MDT meetings. Embedding and cutting of routinewax blocks.Entering patient data into laboratory LIMs.
