Band 4/5 Clinical Technologist (Clinical Engineering)
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Engineering team for a Clinical Technologist in the care of medical equipment, to undertake the maintenance of medical devices to support the treatment of patients in Clinical Areas and Wards throughout the Trust.
Main duties of the job
Responsibility for carrying out servicing and repairs of medical equipment.
Teamwork is essential, so it would be expected the post holder would both provide and receive guidance and supervision to and from other Clinical Technologists who understand the equipment used.
Ensure that medical devices are serviced, repaired and maintained to an appropriate standard.
Travel to other sites will be required to ensure maintenance is carried out at each location.

Job responsibilities
The Clinical Technologist in this role will be responsible for the care of medical equipment. This involves the repair and maintenance of medical devices to support the treatment of patients in Clinical Areas and Wards throughout the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
The post is based in Clinical Engineering, where there are over twenty technologists providing a maintenance and repair service for approximately 17,000 medical devices across 6 sites Royal Berkshire Hospital, Prince Charles Eye Unit (Windsor), Windsor Dialysis Unit, Bracknell Health Space, Townlands Hospital (Henley) and West Berks Community Hospital (Thatcham).
Managerial
- Maintain systems that enable other member of the Department to be aware of the condition and performance of the equipment under the Post-holders care.
- Prioritise and manage own workload in accordance with section policies and competing service demands.
- Review and propose changes to own working practices and procedures in areas where efficiencies or improvements have beenidentified.
- To contribute to the implementation of actions arising from MHRA and Manufactures Safety Alerts.
- Teaching and training.
- Assist in training, development and advise junior staff in the discharge of their duties.
- Assist in the training of nursing and clinical staff in the safe use of equipment.
Professional
- Keep up-to-date of technical developments by attending appropriate manufacturers courses and professional seminars.
- Maintain an appropriate continual professional development programmes with the aim to acquire and maintain Clinical Technologist registration.
- Attend all obligatory Trust courses / Training.
Miscellaneous
- Implement and ensure compliance with quality systems adopted by the department and the Trust.
- Carry out all duties in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work act, relevant Statuary Regulations, approved Codes of Conduct and Local Rules.
- Behave courteously and professionally at all times and seek to ensure the highest level of service is provided by the department and the Trust.
- Undertake other relevant duties as may be required by the management team.

- Degree in Science or Engineering or HNC with equivalent experience
- Applicants with GCSE Grade C or above in English Language, Mathematics and Double Science, plus A-level Grade C or above in Chemistry or Biology, and a pass in another science subject would be considered for appointment at a lower banding for entry onto an apprenticeship scheme
- Equivalent qualifications or professional experience may be also be accepted
