Job summary
This post is a 6PA less-than-full-time substantive post for a Specialty Doctor in Elderly care Medicine and Rehabilitation, starting October/November 2024 This post is sought to provide inpatient and community-based care for patients within long term conditions within the West Berkshire Locality, mostly based at Wokingham Community Hospital. There will also be a requirement to provide prospective annual leave cover for specialty doctor colleagues at Prospect Park and West Berkshire community hospitals.
The successful candidate will join the existing team to provide high quality day to day medical care and review of the patients on Ascot ward and Windsor ward under the supervision of Dr Yetunde Oiku, Consultant Community Geriatrician.
Main duties of the job
Ward work includes the clerking in of new patients transferred from other hospitals and home with arrangement for appropriate investigations as necessary, daily ward review of inpatients, advice to nursing staff on the ward, writing in the medical notes, referral to other specialists when required and completion of discharge paperwork.
The Specialty doctor will be expected to attend consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings where patient rehabilitation progress is reviewed and discharge plans are made. The post holder will be directly involved in communication with patients and relatives and able to offer advice to health and social care colleagues regarding rehabilitation on the wards.
