Band 8A Associate Directorate Manager for Radiology

We are seeking an exceptional manager to join our team and support us in the delivery of high quality services across the in the Radiology Directorate

We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative individual, confident at communicating across all staffing types and in partnership with other teams and organisation.

The role is an ideal opportunity to for those looking to develop in an operational management role supported by a Directorate Manager

The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude, extensive problem solving skills and the ability to effectively prioritise competing workload/demands.

Main duties of the job

This is a key management role within the Radiology Department. Working alongside the Clinical Service Manager (CSM) and Directorate Manager for Networks & Community Diagnostics (DM), this role will provide support and leadership for the Radiology team, with particular emphasis on project management, business case preparation, procurement & financial management, and data oversight

This role will support in ensuring the smooth and effective running of the department. Services directly within the role portfolio are:

Radiology Clinical Administrative Team (CAT)

The post holder will support the CSM & DM in ensuring that all local and national performance standards and objectives are met and maintained

They will contribute to the strategic development and continuing improvement of clinical services, in conjunction with the Clinical Lead, the CSM and DM, driving efficiencies and innovation throughout the directorate.

The postholder will deputise for the Directorate Manager as required, representing the service externally across a range of stakeholders, including but not limited to networks, commissioners, charities and regulators.

Job responsibilities

Accepts delegated responsibilities from the Directorate Manager and Clinical Service Manager to ensure the management and delivery of excellent service results, providing leadership and acting as a role model for the staff and services within own portfolio

Is responsible for ensuring the operational delivery of services; leading and effectively implementing change management initiatives to improve service provision

Influences and contributes to strategic development and the improvement of the service, in conjunction with the Radiology leadership team. To include participation in process and pathway redesign in response to changing user requirements

Ensures effective processes and procedures are in place to monitor and track key performance indicators relevant to specific work areas, ensuring these are reported both internally and externally, and within defined deadlines. Works to ensure that information returns required by the Trust, Commissioners, NHS England and other partner organisations are delivered and are timely, accurate and presented to a high standard

Supports the Service Manager (SM) in the management, co-ordination and monitoring of waiting lists, working with the SM and DM to ensure that standards relating to patient access are achieved

Oversees the production, development and implementation of policies across own area of responsibility, some of which may affect areas beyond the immediate service

Supports the CSM and DM through the procurement process, working in conjunction with modality Leads in the selection and acquisition of equipment and services, ensuring compliance with due process

Completes and submits CIG forms to the Capital Investment group on behalf of the service

Attends the Thames Valley Radiology Network (TVRN) Capital & Procurement meetings. Represents the service in conjunction with the Deputy Clinical Service Manager, Radiology

Undertakes the preparation of business cases ensuring that service changes or developments have been accurately costed and assessed for submission to the appropriate corporate body. Presents such business cases to the Urgent Care Board, Business Case Group etc., as required

Undertakes projects and/or service reviews as and when required

Supports the Improving Together process through the production of relevant management information. Provides and presents such information at monthly performance reviews, as required

Collates the departmental data required for the annual NIDC Model Hospital data submission. In conjunction with the SM and DM, develops a system to ensure on-going collation and currency of information

Investigates complaints in own area of responsibility providing responses as appropriate and in conjunction with the CSM, DM, Clinical Lead, and Matron as necessary. Assists in the implementation of improvements and learning from Datix Incident Reporting forms and complaints, to reduce the incidence and severity of adverse experiences, risks and incidents

Ensures a regular and robust communications structure is in place; delivering and receiving information in a timely manner within the identified service areas and across the Care Group and Trust as appropriate

Actively develops own skills and knowledge as appropriate to role. Is responsible for own personal and professional development.

HUMAN RESOURCES:

Supports delivery of the Trusts appraisal system within the defined area of responsibility, ensuring that every member of staff has measurable objectives and a personal development plan; performs staff appraisals within own area of responsibility

Supports the SM in the management of matters relating to sickness absence, conduct, performance and capability, ensuring adherence to relevant Trust policies. Escalates such issues to the DM, as required

Ensures a learning environment and culture exists within the service to support the Trusts Training and Development Strategy

Participates in the recruitment and retention of staff as appropriate to role, ensures new staff are inducted in accordance with the Trusts induction programme

Supports the DM in the development and implementation of skill mix reviews and other workforce planning strategies for the service

FINANCE:

Provides ongoing financial management support to the CSM, DM and Clinical Lead

Monitors financial performance in own area(s) of responsibility, taking any remedial action identified as necessary. Controls staff and non-staff expenditure where appropriate, working to contain expenditure within budget

Works closely with the CSM, DM, and the Director of Finance for the Care Group to agree the annual budget for the services within the portfolio, identifying opportunities for cost improvement, service improvement and any cash releasing efficiency savings

PHYSICAL RESOURCES:

Undertakes on-going review of facilities and workflow within the identified service area(s) to ensure optimum use of resources

Oversees capital development programmes for the services within the defined area of responsibility, in close liaison with the CSM and DM
