Job summary
This is a trust is looking to recruit an Internal medicine Trainee to fill a current Registrar vacancy in Rheumatology/Endocrine (from now until 5th Aug 2024). The successful applicant(s) will be expected to start as soon as possible. Although this is a Trust Registrar post, the successful candidate will be allocated an educational supervisor and will be supported to complete work-based assessment and to sign of the curriculum competencies.
This is a trust funded 6 months post to fill a deanery funded IMT3 vacancy. . Although this is not an approved training post, the successful candidate will be allocated an educational supervisor and will be supported to complete work-based assessment and to sign of the curriculum competencies. There is a potential to extend the post for 12 months depending on the vacancies in the IMT3 rotations
Main duties of the job
Outpatient Clinics - The IMT3 will be doing 3-4 clinics a week under close consultant supervision. The aim of the clinics is to introduce the trainee to different aspects of the specialty. The clinics will rotate between General Diabetes, Young adults Diabetes Clinic and General endocrine with the opportunity to do some of the more specialised clinics for example Diabetes Pump, Antenatal Diabetes, Bariatrics and radioactive iodine.
Inpatients - Along with the specialty trainee and the associate specialist, the IMT3 will rotate in holding the specialty referral bleep to answer for referrals from the hospitals and urgent referrals for advice from primary care. The person taking the referral will be expected to discuss all referrals with the consultant on ward cover. They will also work closely with the diabetes nurses.
On Call -The IMT3 will be on the medical take doing on calls at a frequency of 1:12. The on call shifts are from 1st on call from 0800-20:00 or 2nd on SpR at night from 2200 to 10:100 with weekend cover recurring around once every 6 weeks.
About us
The Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology is one of the largest in the Thames valley Region. It has a strong presence both in the acute Trust and in the community. The department was recently a runner up for three 'Quality in Care' national awards for the implementation of the Think Glucose project, aiming to improve diabetes inpatient care. There is a purpose-converted Diabetes and Endocrine Centre within the hospital complex. There are 4 full time consultants and 1 part time consultant (40% job share with acute medicine) with interests in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism. A full range of diabetes and endocrinology services is provided at the Royal Berkshire hospital.
