Job summary
A fantastic opportunity for an advanced clinical practitioner in Paediatric Ophthalmology has arisen at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking to appoint a suitably qualified Orthoptist or Optometrist to work as a qualified ACP at Band 8a level.
The ACP in Paediatric Ophthalmology will use specialist knowledge and skills to deliver independent assessment, clinical examination, diagnosis, clinical decision making and planning of care and treatment, health promotion and safe admission and discharge of patients.
You will work alongside the Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist, taking sole care for a diverse group of patients attending the eye clinic across Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust's sites, which includes the renowned Prince Charles Eye Unit in Windsor.
This role is funded as an 8a Qualified ACP; however, should we not be able to appoint a qualified ACP, we would support a suitable candidate at Band 7 level through the Advanced Clinical Practice in Paediatric Ophthalmology programme.
Job descriptions for both qualified and trainee ACPs are attached to this advert.
**We would welcome informal visits from interested candidates.**
Main duties of the job
The ACP will work with innovation and flexibility to adapt to a fast-changing speciality, and play an integral role in the operational / strategic development of the service.
You will be responsible for their own case mix of paediatric ophthalmology patients, including running paediatric anterior segment clinics, virtual review of suspicious optic disc imaging, as well as taking part in general paediatric ophthalmology clinics alongside the consultant.
We would also be keen that the successful candidate maintain their core skills in either orthoptics or optometry, in line with their professional registration, and this is reflected in the indicative job plans in both attached job descriptions.
The ACP in Paediatric Ophthalmology will also support the Head Orthoptist and Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist in the management and leadership of the Orthoptics and Paediatric Ophthalmology services, and provide teaching, mentoring and leadership to undergraduates, and junior colleagues working within the team.
