Job summary

Band 2 Healthcare Assistant (Eye Day Bed Ward) - Full Time 37.5 hours per week.

This post is based at Prince Charles Eye Unit, King Edward VII Hospital, St Leonards Road, Windsor, SL4 3DP - and attracts a High Cost Area Supplement (HCAS) of 5% (£1,192) of gross basic salary.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our team at the Prince Charles Eye Unit, King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor.

The Adult Eye Day Bed Ward comprises of 14 day chairs, 3 recovery beds and 2 eye operating theatres.

We are open Monday to Friday 07:00-18:00.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who has an interest in a career in operating theatres and would like to gain experience within Ophthalmology specialities.

You should have a desire to provide compassionate support and care for patients under going eye surgical procedures.

Good communication skills, a caring nature, a flexible approach and enthusiasm to work with us are essential, together with a willingness to learn and develop.

Previous experience is desirable but not essential, as successful applicants will receive a comprehensive induction on commencing the post.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for candidates with a desire to provide compassionate support and care, good communication skills, a flexible approach and enthusiasm to work within the team.

Main duties include:

  • Admitting patients and recording their vital signs.
  • Escorting patients to theatres.
  • Working as part of the Eye Theatres Day Unit Team.

As part of the induction process, all new Healthcare Assistants will be supported to complete the nationally recognised Care Certificate (attached document refers) developed by Health Education England, Skills for Health and Skills for Care (2015).

This fantastic opportunity will allow you to gain formal recognition for the skills and knowledge you develop within the first 12 weeks of employment within the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
