Job summary

Senior Pharmacy Homecare Technician

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic, well organised, and well-presented qualified Pharmacy technician to join the team as the Senior Homecare Pharmacy Technician. You will be expected to manage the day-to-day organisation of the service and to support the Homecare team in the establishment of new services and monitoring of the homecare services provided.

You must have excellent communication and organisation skills, display good leadership skills, and manage calmly in potentially stressful situations with the ability to use your own initiative to support both other Pharmacy staff and the multidisciplinary teams that utilise homecare services.

As a registered professional, you will maintain CPD and be willing to participate in extended roles for Pharmacy technicians.

Main duties of the job

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Deputising for the Pharmacy Homecare Services Manager.
  • Assist the Pharmacy Homecare Service Manager in the day to day running of the homecare service.
  • Ensure patients receive an outstanding service from contracted homecare providers.
  • Maintain robust and accurate datasets to ensure compliance with reporting/commissioning requirements.
  • Participate in the training and development of staff within the homecare team and wider department.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Professional registration as a Pharmacy Technician through Technician membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • NVQ level 3, BTEC, SCOTVEC or recognised equivalent qualification which will comply with the General Pharmaceutical Council's requirements for Registered Pharmacy Technicians

Desirable

  • Management or supervisory training or qualification
  • Qualification/accreditation in extended roles for Pharmacy technicians: i.e. ACPT, Medicines Management, Controlled Drugs & pre-packing

Experience

Essential

  • Experience at Pharmacy Technician Band 4 or above
  • Ability to demonstrate working with staff external to Pharmacy
  • Experience of training others
  • Experience of extended roles for Pharmacy technicians

Desirable

  • Experience in all aspects of hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of producing financial and quality reports
  • Experience of the purchasing of Pharmaceuticals
  • Experience of using computer systems to procure medicines
  • Experience of implementing new services and procedures
  • xperience of Pharmacy homecare services

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to interpret prescriptions and dispense accurately
  • High degree of numeracy
  • Excellent customer relation skills
  • Good working knowledge of pharmaceutical practice relevant to homecare services

Desirable

  • Ability to use JAC or other pharmacy computer system
  • Able to produce reports and other materials using Microsoft office applications
  • Good understanding of NHS Pharmaceutical contract process and negotiation
  • Computer skill including use of NHS email.
  • A good working knowledge of medicines frequently supplied via homecare services
