Specialist Wheelchair Clinician - OT or Physio (F/T 18 months)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join the West Berkshire Wheelchair Service on a fixed-term basis, at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The role involves providing specialist postural and functional assessment and the prescription of wheelchairs for adults in the West Berkshire region. As the successful candidate, you will utilise your specialist knowledge and clinical reasoning to meet the postural and seating needs of your patients, independently managing your caseload of complex adult patients.

You will have a willingness to develop your leadership skills and become more involved in service development and improvement projects, a pivotal part of this role. This is an excellent opportunity for a band 6 Therapist looking to further their career in a highly specialist and in-demand area of practice.

Main duties of the job

  • To be a specialist wheelchair clinician working for the West Berkshire Wheelchair Service, based at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust Hospital (RBFT).
  • To participate in the operational management of the wheelchair service in conjunction with the Band 7 Team Lead.
  • To use specialist knowledge and clinical reasoning skills to provide high quality assessment and advice regarding the safe management of postural and seating needs, and to manage own caseload of patients with complex conditions as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Contribute to planning, service improvement projects, and policy development within the service.
  • To deputise for the Band 7 Team Lead as require.
