Band 2 Receptionist (Outpatients Department)
This is a part-time post for 15 hours per week (8.30 - 1700 Monday & Tuesday)
PLEASE NOTE: This post is based at Townlands Memorial Hospital, York Road, Henley-on -Thames, RG9 2DR.
The Outpatients Department at Townlands Memorial Hospital is a small team supporting multiple visiting specialties from Royal Berkshire Hospital. Providing clinics at Townlands enables patients in the Henley and surrounding areas to be seen closer to home.
You will be responsible for delivering an effective and efficient support service to the Outpatients department, assisting in the provision of quality patient care.
This will include welcoming patients and being the first point of contact for patients attending the hospital.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve checking patients in, booking appointments and answering the telephone.
You will need to be able to communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team and the public, promoting good working relationships supporting in the day-to-day running of Outpatients.

Job responsibilities
- Book new and follow-up appointments etc into appropriate clinics.
- Greet patients when they arrive in the department and direct to appropriate waiting area.
- Check patients in on GPAS and make further appointments as required.
- Deal with enquiries from patients, relatives, members of primary and secondary care team.
- Cover administrative duties as required.
- Maintaining good communication with other departments.
- Offering appointments in accordance with the Choice agenda, Booking guidance, Clinical urgency, and Trust wait-list policies and targets.
- Managing the cancellation and movement of clinics, re-booking of clinics and appointments.
- Assisting in the set-up of ad hoc clinics and the amendment of clinic profiles.
- Undertaking actions, as directed by the Consultant, following their review of clinical information.
- To book Interpreter services as required adhering to Trust policies and procedure.
- Comply with all aspects of Data Protection and Patient Confidentiality.
- Plan and manage own workload in an environment of complex and competing activities/tasks.
- To be responsible for dealing with PALS enquiries in a sensitive and empathetic manner to a satisfactory conclusion.
- To help and support all members of the team by having a flexible approach to both workload and working patterns.
- Contribute towards the implementation of service improvement projects across the department.
- To be responsible for maintaining personal development to meet the organisational needs of the role.
