This is an opportunity for a permanent role to support our Maternity Assessment Unit Manager and Lead Midwife for Antenatal Services.

They will work closely with the midwives, to support the smooth running of the ward by providing administration and secretarial support. As a new role they will be instrumental in helping the Lead Midwife in reviewing administration processes and identifying more efficient and effective ways of working.

They will support enquiries from patients and their visitors, and liaise with staff from other wards and departments.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who will enjoy working in a busy environment working with a multi professional group

Main duties of the job

To work closely with the Lead Midwife and other relevant staff to identify, develop and implement administrative systems on the ward. This may include the following:-

  • Providing secretarial support to the Lead Midwife.
  • Ensuring relevant paperwork is available for ward meetings, patient discharges, communication with health visitors and external health services etc;
  • Preparing and typing letters and reports, including the recording and reporting of Action Notes from ward meetings
  • Assisting the Lead Midwife in analysing and responding to service user feedback in order to improve maternity care
  • Organising meetings
  • Assisting the Lead Midwife in the planning of the Off Duty Rota
  • Collating Annual Leave and Sick Leave information for staff
  • Assisting in organising mandatory and other training for the staff
  • Organising the servicing and maintaining the log of equipment and estates and facilities issues, liaising directly with the appropriate departments
  • Assisting and actioning matrons rounding's where required
  • Assisting the Lead Midwife in the administrative process for the recruitment of new staff
  • Procuring ward goods/supplies relevant to the service, within agreed budget

About us

The Maternity unit deliver just under 5000 babies a year. The unit comprises of a delivery suite, midwife led birth centre, postnatal and antenatal wards, outpatients and Maternity Assessment Unit. We have a very successful home birth service, specialist teams to support vulnerable women and continuity of care teams.
