Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the ENT Department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital as a Head and Neck Physician Associate. The ENT department has moved to split site working and has significantly increased its workforce as a result of continued service demand. This unlocks new opportunities for another Physician Associate to join the team as a valued and vital member of the department. You would have a role in the delivery of both acute and elective services for ENT. The department has employed a PA since 2019, with a second PA joining in January 2023; the role has been shown to significantly increase continiuity of care to patients and colleagues.
Main duties of the job
This PA role will have a particular focus on Head and Neck cancer care, supporting the 2 week wait pathway. This will support improved care delivery targets and patient pathway flow. They will be supporting cancer triaging, monitoring and patient diagnosis. The successful applicant will work alongside a team of consultants and a multi-disciplinary team.
In the acute service, the PA will be attached to the Surgeon of the Week on call and together they will form the backbone of this acute ENT service including supporting the ENT Assessment Unit. This will allow doctors in training to be released to perform tasks and roles which add greater educational value, as well as service roles benefiting both them and the department. The PA's will also add much needed continuity to the ever changing team of junior doctors as they rotate through ENT and the RBH.
The post holder will be required to attend clinical governance and other team meetings pertinent to the role. The job will involve a good mix of acute and elective work to ensure balance. There will be plenty of scope for career development in the fields of teaching and research both in which the ENT department currently excels.
