Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon -Primary Hip &Knee Arthroplasty

Job summary

We are looking to appoint a whole-time Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon (hip and knee primary arthroplasty) to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. This post is fixed term for 1 year but with the possibility of an additional one year extension subject to the mutual agreement of all parties.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with senior colleagues (at both Consultant grade and Specialist Grades) be responsible for the provision of the elective primary hip and knee arthroplasty services and neck of femur trauma surgery. They will not be on the acute major trauma on call but will participate in the elective cold site on-call rota based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

The appointee will be encouraged and supported to develop their interest in primary hip and knee arthroplasty. The appointee will be expected to assist in the training of trainees.

The appointee will deliver scheduled independent elective outpatient and elective theatre sessions, they will also be scheduled to cover some of the Neck of Femur Trauma lists.

The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of service Specialist- (England (2021).

Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical Degree from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution
  • Membership of UK Royal Colleges or equivalent overseas qualification.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council with a license to practice.
  • A minimum of 12 years full time medical work (or equivalent gained on a part-time basis) since obtaining a primary medical qualification at least 6 of which will be in Trauma and Orthopaedics at a senior level including Specialty Doctor, closed SAS grades and Consultant/Locum Consultant.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working in the NHS at Specialty doctor level or above.

  • CTT or CESR
  • Fellowship or equivalent
