To work closely with the Matron and Sister/Charge Nurse in supporting the nursing staff in providing a high standard of care by performing duties as per job description.

To work as part of the clinical team to ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment is maintained. To work closely with the Matron and Sister/Charge Nurse in supporting the nursing staff in providing a high standard of care by performing duties as per job description.
This role is integral to providing a smooth running service for the patients and staff, therefore requires a dynamic individual with an eye for detail and good use of initiative. It is a physical role so must be able to abide by moving and handling protocols to support your own health well being and attendance.

Main duties of the job
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards on the ward and report to the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and Matron on the level of cleanliness in the area.
- Participate in environmental monitoring and inspections.
- Spot cleaning i.e. ensure spillage's including body fluids are dealt with swiftly and efficiently in accordance with Trust policies.
- By working with, and following guidance from the nursing team, ensure equipment (both clinical and non-clinical) is in a clean condition and available for immediate use.
- Upkeep of ward appearance i.e. removing clutter, tidy notice boards, attend to storage requirements, signage, tidy nurse stations etc.
- Ensure bed areas are clean and prepared for new patients.
- Care of patients lockers and bed areas.
- Assist patients with meal choices as directed by the Nurse in Charge. See Job description for full list of duties.

- GCSE Grade D/3 or above in English or Maths or equivalent qualifications or equivalent experience.
- Valid Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or attainment of Basic REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate (can be completed once in post - one day course)
Desirable
- Clerical / IT qualification or relevant experience
- Working towards Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) level 2 or 3 (NVQ2/3)
Experience

- Manual Handling, Fire and Health and Safety Awareness ( Will be completed as part of mandatory training in house also)
