Job summary
The Directorate of Ophthalmology requires an Ophthalmic Science Practitioner to cover study leave for a fixed period of 12 months, the post is needed on Wednesdays and will be 7.5 hour per week.
The post involves working in Cataract Assessment, Macular Degeneration, Diabetic, and Glaucoma Services and will be based in the Ophthalmic Imaging Department at the Royal Hallamshire, Northern General Eye Centre and Sheffield Children's Hospital.
The post encompass retinal imaging, biometry, OCT Scanning, Confocal Microscopy, Physiological Measurement and Ultra-sound B Scan and Visual Field Analysis Angiography, applicants should be experienced in performing these procedures.
Applicants will be expected to work collaboratively on a day-to day basis with others to contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the service.

Clinical Imaging
Perform retinal imaging and image analysis using current standard techniquesSlit lamp biomicroscopy & imaging of anterior segment of the eye utilising topical stains as appropriateClinical imaging of the external eye and Ocular adnexaePerform retinal tomography, volumetric analysis of the optic nerve head to screen for glaucomatous neuropathyUndertake optical coherence tomography of the neuro-sensory retina, optic nerve and retinal nerve fibre layerOperating theatre imaging and examination of patients under anaestheticUltra-sound B scanBiometry & corneal k readings

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.
