Job summary

Following the retirement of the existing postholder, there is an exciting opportunity to join the Senior Pharmacy Management Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for the above role.

Medicines safety and governance is mission critical to every aspect of patient care, meaning the strategic importance of this role to the organisation is hugely significant. Developing, leading and delivering the Medicines Safety Strategy at STH is a key role of this post; working with senior consultants, governance leads across the organisation and ICS, and all staff groups within Pharmacy ensures a broad and challenging remit requiring an exceptional candidate.

Acting as Professional Secretary to the Trust's Medicines Safety Group, the ideal candidate will posses excellent time management, critical analysis, incident investigation, action plan development and report writing skills, along with a governance-focussed yet practical medicines safety mindset.

Main duties of the job

  • Leading the Medicines Safety agenda at a Trust-level.
  • Ensuring STH compliance with complex legal and statutory requirements around medicines are met.
  • Act as lead author for the Trust wide Medicines Code.
  • Oversee medicines recalls, patient safety alerts and action plan development.
  • Develop and disseminate medicines safety bulletins and other communications/training on medicines safety issues.
  • Lead on the development and maintenance of Pharmacy Risk Register entries, incident/complaint responses and corresponding action plans.
  • Oversee Clinical Audit Programme & represent Pharmacy on the Safety and Risk Forum.
  • Oversee the Pharmacy Quality Improvement programme.
  • Directly support the Chief Pharmacist in ensuring all policies and procedures relating to medicines safety are introduced effectively across the organisation.
  • Providing management support to approximately 9wte staff.

  • MPharm degree in pharmacy
  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Management or leadership qualification
  • Demonstrated ability to work at Doctorate level

Desirable

  • Post-graduate Masters qualification in clinical pharmacy or leadership
  • Project/Programme Management/Quality Improvement qualification e.g. PRINCE 2, MSP or equivalent experience
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Audit

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience as a practising clinician at advanced level within a UK hospital pharmacy department
  • Significant experience at senior management level or ability to demonstrate equivalent experience of staff management, human resources policies and project management.
  • Evidence of ability to plan, lead and evaluate complex services and utilisation of leadership skills in highly complex projects and change management skills
