Job summary
Three posts are available at the level of Senior Clinical Fellow to commence on 1st October 2025 for a fixed term period until 31st March 2026 working within the Trauma and Orthopaedic unit. Extension of contract for a maximum of a 2-year period can be considered with mutual agreement after the initial months. The posts do not award a National Training Number and MRCS and MBChB or equivalent are essential. Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent to ST3 level or above.
Main duties of the job
This post is ideal for those candidates wishing to pursue a career in orthopaedic Surgery. There is opportunity within this large and prestigious unit to expand on clinical, operative, educational and academic skills. You will be supported by an enthusiastic and encouraging consultant body, becoming competitive for recruitment to higher surgical training programs.
The successful applicant will be expected to work at a minimum of ST3 level, they will receive a wide exposure to trauma and orthopaedic surgery on a daily basis building operative and clinical skills. The department has a consultant of the week model with a daily consultant ward round which reviews all of the trauma patients within the unit, with subspecialty teams reviewing their own elective patients. They will be required to attend fracture and orthopaedic clinics to expand their learning and will be allocated a clinical supervisor. Regular trauma meetings are undertaken daily, 7 days a week at 8.00am. The successful candidate will be part of a subspecialist unit undertaking trauma on the Northern General Hospital and elective practice at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
