Job summary
We are looking for a suitably qualified mammographer to join our friendly breast imaging team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, compassionate individual. The applicant must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The applicant must hold the post graduate certificate of competency in mammography.
Applicants must be female, this role has a "genuine occupational qualification" as an exception to the Equality Act 2010.
About Us
The breast imaging team includes four Consultant Radiologists, a skill mix of Clinical Imaging Specialists, Advanced Practitioners, Radiographers and Assistant practitioners. The department is part of the Radiology department and has a close working relationship with the department of surgery.
Our busy breast imaging service delivers high quality breast imaging, whilst providing excellent quality patient care and experience. The service performs approximately 20,000 screening mammograms per year as part of the NHS breast screening programme together with imaging for the breast symptomatic service.
The Radiology department has gained QSI accreditation.
The directorate is committed to training and development and encourages all aspects of CPD and role extension/advanced practice. The service benefits from having a training lead to co-ordinate all aspects of training.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are to work as a mammographer in the breast screening and symptomatic breast imaging department providing a high quality and responsive mammography service as part of a multi-disciplinary team, whilst maintaining and monitoring performance as set out by the NHS breast screening programme to enable standards to be met.
- To ensure that safe practice is carried out in accordance with the Unit's protocols.
- To acquire and maintain an excellent level of skill & knowledge, in all aspects of breast imaging.
- To maintain positive professional links with other medical and non-medical staff to promote good service and standards within the radiographic speciality of mammography.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months (until 12/06/2026) due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.
