Job summary

To support the Senior Sister and Matron in delivering the highest standards of care to patients attending the clinics and day case unit, the postholder will be responsible for the management, supervision, and coordination of nursing activities within the department. They will provide a visible, accessible, and authoritative presence to whom staff, patients, and their families can seek assistance, advice, and support.

In addition to these responsibilities, the postholder will serve as a Clinical Educator, playing a key role in supporting the professional development and education of staff within the unit. This includes facilitating training, mentoring, and ensuring continuous learning opportunities to enhance clinical competencies and patient care standards. They will work closely with the team to promote evidence-based practice and foster a positive learning environment.

Main duties of the job

To develop and provide a service to patients within the scope of professional practice and support to nursing and medical colleagues within the clinical Immunology and Allergy Unit.

To promote high quality care, ensuring individual patients needs are assessed, care planned, implemented and evaluated regularly.

To support the Senior Sister in all aspects of their role, working alongside the CNSs to ensure the smooth running of the service. This includes taking charge of the department, managing daily activities, allocating work, and supervising junior staff.

To lead by example - demonstrate PROUD values and behaviours and encourage Trust staff to do the same; act as a role model and teacher, demonstrating knowledge and sharing skills, to enhance patient care and experience.

To promote a positive learning environment, which facilitates the development and educational needs of staff with respect to Immunology and Allergy, utilising all available learning opportunities and resources.

About us

The Clinical Immunology and Allergy Unit provides regional specialist services for adults, offering multi-disciplinary assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and support for patients with immunodeficiency diseases, all types of allergic disorders and a range of autoimmune and auto inflammatory disorders.

This highly active and dynamic unit provides efficient day case care and specialist clinics to support comprehensive investigation and treatment. Services include immunoglobulin replacement therapy, emergency treatment for C1 inhibitor deficiency, immunotherapy, as well as allergy testing (skin prick test, prick-to-prick test, and intradermal test) and allergen challenge testing. The unit also offers training and guidance on management plans, along with home therapy training for C1 inhibitor deficiency, chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), and home-based immunoglobulin replacement therapy for suitable patients.
