Job summary
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Clerical Officer to join our dynamic Ophthalmology Department. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with experience in reception and administration to become an integral part of our team.
The ideal candidate will bring a flexible and adaptable approach to their work, as the role may involve a variety of tasks to support the smooth operation of our department. While previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment is desirable, it is not essential, as full training and support will be provided to the right candidate.

Main duties of the job
This is a vital role within our Ophthalmology Department, playing a key part in the delivery of high-quality patient care by managing the patient pathway and providing essential support to our wider team. Our roles are diverse, fast-paced, and rewarding, offering the opportunity to make a real difference to patient outcomes. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Receive and process all requests for surgery.
Coordinate patient surgical appointment offering choice of dates, times, and confirming all details, including special requirements (e.g., transport, interpreters).
Maintain accurate patient records, ensuring demographic details are up-to-date and all interactions are recorded in relevant IT systemsUphold patient confidentiality and comply with all Sheffield Teaching Hospitals policies, procedures, and guidelines, including mandatory training requirements.
