Job summary
Responsibility for ensuring structures and processes is in place to ensure the safe and seamless monitoring of patient's prescribed Sodium Valproate for Epilepsy under the MHRA regulatory measures released in November 2023. This includes the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive patient database; coordination of MDT meetings, coordination of annual appointments and data collection which will require data entry on several hospital data bases.
In addition, co-ordination of timely completion of high-cost drug notification forms (BlueTeq) to enable continued prescription within agreed national frameworks. In order to achieve this, the post holder must have a comprehensive understanding of national and local requirements for the treatment of Epilepsy with Sodium Valproate alongside high-cost notification medications relevant to Epilepsy, in depth knowledge of the patient's journey and the ability to effectively interact with managers and clinicians within and outside the Trust.
Work collaboratively with the Consultant Neurologists, Epilepsy Nurse Specialists and other key administrative and clinical staff to ensure any potential breaches are documented and escalated. Work collaboratively with Consultant Neurologists, Epilepsy Nurse Specialists and other key members of staff to facilitate the monthly medical epilepsy MDT.
Main duties of the job
The Sodium Valproate MDT Coordinator will provide comprehensive MDT administrative coordination and support to the Epilepsy Team within the Sheffield service. The successful applicant will help to collect and monitor data and be able to contribute to research and service development.
This role has been developed to support the tracking of patients within the Neurosciences Directorate against the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) National Patient Safety Alert (Nov 2023) for patients prescribed Sodium Valproate for Epilepsy. The focus is to ensure safe and efficient care for patients on Sodium Valproate.
