Job summary

We are looking to appoint to a whole-time Consultant Neurosurgeon with an Interest in Paediatric Neurosurgery to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, with clinical sessions at the Sheffield Children's Hospital. A candidate with an interest in Paediatric Neurosurgery is sought to contribute to the continued development of the service in Sheffield.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The appointee, together with consultant colleagues, will be responsible for the provision of adult neurosurgical services to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and paediatric neurosurgical services to the Sheffield Children's Hospital.

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the routine adult neurosurgical workload and the paediatric sub-specialty.

The person appointed will take their equal share in providing emergency cover and will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the department.
