Job summary

We are looking for a Clinical Imaging Specialist to join us as a member of the breast imaging team providing the breast imaging service for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS trust. This role is on a 6 month fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. The candidate will have expert knowledge and maintain an excellent level of skill in all aspects of advanced practice in breast imaging. The candidate will predominantly be helping support the breast symptomatic service which is provided in Sheffield, but NHSBSP experience would be desirable.

The role provides a high quality and responsive breast imaging service as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Breast Imaging Specialist will have expert knowledge and opinion within the field of Breast Imaging. Duties will involve participation/leadership in symptomatic and assessment clinics, performing ultrasound, film reading to include plain film mammography interpretation, ultrasound and mammographic biopsies and localisation procedures.

They willprovide strong clinical leadership and apply a high degree of professional autonomy in the decision making process of strategic development of service delivery using innovative solutions to improve patient care and pathways within the region working across traditional professional boundaries. Provide clinical leadership to radiography staff in conjunction with the Breast Imaging Clinical Director. Maintain positive professional links with other medical and non-medical staff to promote excellent multi-disciplinary relationships. Enhance the service by undertaking audit and incorporate evidence based practice.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of six months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder.   • Ability to undertake and independently report ultrasound and mammographic images and procedures at the same level required by a Radiologist.
  • Expert knowledge of professional policies and procedures including those of the NHS Breast Screening Programme.
