An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7, Safeguarding Lead Midwife to join the Jessop Wing, Safeguarding Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. We are looking to recruit an inspirational and highly motivated Midwife with enhanced leadership abilities.
The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive Safeguarding knowledge and possess expertise within the remit of Maternity and desirably Neonatal services. A Think Family approach is essential.
The post holder will report to and support the Named Midwife for Safeguarding at Jessop Wing and act as a conduit between staff and external agencies and stakeholders involved in Safeguarding Children and Child Protection.
The Safeguarding Lead Midwife will be a visible and credible leader within the Jessop Wing, sharing specialist knowledge, and advice to staff in the clinical environment.
Main duties of the job
Implement effective systems to identify pregnant vulnerable women and develop care pathways for vulnerable women from pregnancy through to the postnatal period, ensuring that all aspects of care in relation to Child Protection issues are followed through.
Provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence, acting as a professional role model by providing leadership and support within multidisciplinary and midwife teams.
Support the multi-disciplinary team to provide coordinated care for vulnerable women and those with complex social needs including child protection and safeguarding concerns.
Support and advice colleagues in the clinical assessment process where there are safeguarding/child protection concerns.
Support and advise other professionals on the management of all forms of actual or potential child maltreatment, including relevant legal frameworks and documentation
Facilitate attendance by relevant clinicians or attend child safeguarding meetings on their behalf for maternity cases including pre-birth planning and child protection case conferences.

The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.
