An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the department of Specialist Scientific Physiological Services (SSPS) that brings together highly specialist teams of Clinical Scientists delivering a diverse range of highly specialist services.
We are seeking to recruit a 0.5 WTE permanent AFC Band 8a Lead Clinical Scientist with proven experience in the field of paediatric audiology to work in the audiological sciences group. The group sits in the Specialist Scientific Physiological Services (SSPS) section within the Directorate of Medical Imaging Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering and provides scientific and clinical input to audiology services in Sheffield, Chesterfield and Barnsley. The role will be largely based at Chesterfield (and its outreach clinic in Buxton) in the paediatric team, with some regular contact time at the Sheffield site.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone who is able to work as a Clinical Scientist primarily in neonatal and paediatric audiology.
The post-holder will be expected to take a lead in delivery of scientific knowledge and service development to paediatric audiology at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as well as input to other local services, where required.
The post-holder will work primarily as scientific lead for the paediatric audiology service and team lead for the newborn hearing screening programme (NHSP) in Chesterfield (and Buxton).
The post-holder must have experience in complex diagnostic assessment and rehabilitation of neonates and children of all ages.

Essential
- BSc degree at 2:1 or above in an appropriate subject (e.g. Neurosensory Science/ Healthcare Science/ Engineering/ Physics)
- Master's degree or equivalent in Audiological Science/ with certificate of competence in audiology (CAC or equivalent e.g. STP) or relevant subject
- Registration with the Health Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist
Desirable
- PhD or equivalent level of knowledge/expertise in health-related science
- Examiner for school of health care science
- Membership of BAA/BSA
- Management/Leadership qualification

- Extensive postgraduate experience as a clinical scientist & extensive experience in a senior position in the highly specialised field of audiological science
- Experience of carrying out diagnostic and / or therapeutic procedures on patients.
- Experience in implementation of quality standards
- Experience of providing direct scientific clinical services and taking high quality scientific measurements from patients
- Experience in providing independent reports on the outcome of hearing assessment & providing specialist, technical advice to clinicians
- An understanding of clinical governance and its relevance to clinical services
