Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Whole time Consultant Haematologist with a specialist interest in Haemostasis and Thrombosis within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive Haemostasis and Thrombosis Service. It is expected that the successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team in order to provide a high quality, comprehensive service within this teaching hospital environment.

The allocation of time between the various duties of the post will be open to some adjustment in consultation with consultant colleagues and the employing Trust. The appointee will work with colleagues to deliver a Haemostasis and Thrombosis attending system on a 1:5 rotational basis from 09.00 - 17.00hrs Mon - Fri and 1:5 on call weekends and nights. On call intensity is deemed to be at Band B supplement.

Essential

  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • MRCP/FRCP and FRCPath or equivalent

  • MD or PhD or equivalent

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Specialist training in the clinical management of haematological disorders.
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Haematology.
  • Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post plus any specific experience required for the post.

  • To have experience in the investigation and management of patients with inherited and acquired bleeding and thrombotic disorders.
