Job summary
To provide a comprehensive and efficient medical secretary service for the Department of Haematology and to provide the highest standard of care to all patients and thus contribute to the overall efficiency and development of the service.
The post holder will be required to work closely with the clinical team to develop a clear understanding of the clinical service and provide a very high standard of secretarial work.
The post holder will be required to be flexible to meet the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a comprehensive secretarial service to the Department in line with existing and changing requirements.
- Assist consultants with diary management, arranging meetings and appointments as required.
- Type patient letters relating to clinic appointments, test results, re-referrals, discharge summaries or any other patient & non-patient related correspondence from audio, shorthand, longhand, or verbal dictation in line with Trust guidelines.
- Action e-mail, voicemail, post, telephone calls, messages and photocopying.
- Ensure the patient 18 week pathway is monitored and observed at all times during all process undertaken in this role. This will include actively managing the 18 week pathway on return of test results
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of nine months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.
Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

- 5 GCSEs Grade C/4 or above including English and Maths or equivalent experience
- 2 "A" levels or NVQ level 3 in a relevant subject, or equivalent experience
