Job summary

Locum Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in Trauma & lower limb arthroplasty to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. This post is fixed term for 1 year.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

It is intended that the appointee will have primary interest in Lower Limb Trauma with an elective practice in Lower Limb Arthroplasty and will undertake elective outpatient clinics, elective operating sessions, Neck of Femur fracture operating sessions, ward round duties and associated administration. Also responsible for cover forweekday Trauma lists and Neck of Femur Fracture lists alongside other consultant colleagues.

The new Consultant will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence.

The post holder will not participate in a trauma on-call rota, but the post will entail an on-call weekend rota to cover Sheffield Elective Orthopaedics Centre (SEOC). This is currently 1 in 16 and involves a morning ward round of elective patients. The post holder will be expected to be on call from home from 8am until 5pm on the Saturday and Sunday to cover elective patients only.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent.

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview
  • If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Appropriate Fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in the Orthopaedic Surgery
