Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals to work within Switchboard as a Telephonist.

The Telecoms department provides voice services to the 5 physical hospitals that deliver acute services to the Trust, alongside a plethora of Community sites across the City. At its core, the department is responsible for the organisation's 24/7/365 switchboard service and provision of technical support to some 11,000 telephone extensions which deal with in excess of 3 million incoming and 2 million outgoing calls a month.

The shift vacancy we have is a part time 26.25 hours a week contract based on 5 out of 7 days, covering a variety of hours, between 6am and 10.30pm Monday - Friday including weekends and Bank Holidays.

Main duties of the job

Act as a first point of contact for internal and external calls.

Taking internal emergency calls on behalf of organisation.

Acting as a single repository of information for callers both internal and external.

Act as an intermediary between STH Telephone Engineers for fault reporting purposes.
