Job summary

We have an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join the General Surgery Directorate Team as our Senior Rota Coordinator. This is an exciting, high paced role, responsible for working with consultant leads and junior doctors to ensure all junior doctor rota's across the care group are compliant and clinical services continue to be safely maintained. The postholder will have a key role in the delivery of safe patient care across the group.

As a member of the General Surgery Directorate, the postholder will be welcomed into the established General Surgery management team to work alongside colleagues, including the General Surgery scheduler. Responsible for managing the junior doctor rota's, and being the key link between the junior doctors, the Directorates and Medical HR, communication and teamworking skills are essential, as are personal organisation and attention to detail. With a varied role, that includes line management responsibility and communication across the care group, the postholder will build on their existing organisational skills and knowledge and contribute directly to delivery of clinical services.

Main duties of the job

  • Implement / maintain complex on call rota's and ensuring appropriate processes are in place to maintain complaint rotas at all times.
  • Building and maintaining good working relationships within the Group and with staff from other directorates which contribute to the delivery of surgical services.
  • Ensuring that rota problems are minimised and that a culture of learning from mistakes and improving the patient and staff experience is inherent in daily work practices.
  • Ensuring all requests for Annual and Study leave are dealt with swiftly to allow medical colleagues to manage their own wellbeing and training and development effectively, as well as know how much leave they still have to take.
  • Ensuring any short notice absence (sick leave / special leave) is dealt with, and clinical services continue to be safely maintained.
  • Providing and maintaining junior doctor cover arrangements, including rota changes and ad-hoc enquires as required.
  • Implement, maintain and manage data records to provide up-to-date and accurate performance management information, including but not limited to.
    • Locum/Bank/Agency Junior Doctor usage and expenditure/budget performance
    • Medical staff on duty
    • Medical staff annual leave

The post holder will also provide cross-cover for the General Surgery scheduler, and line management of the General Surgery ward clerks.

Surgical Services provide a non-elective service via the Surgical Assessment Centre (NSAC) and Urology Assessment Unit (UAU) as well as a range of specialist elective services at both the Northern General Hospital and Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
