Job summary

We are looking to appoint a whole time Consultant to work across Acute Medicine and Nephrology to support both Acute Medicine and Acute nephrology in the region.

This is an amazing opportunity for individual/s open to a new challenge with opportunity to provide input into developing this new way of integrated working for better patient outcomes.

Post: Support both the Acute Medicine Service at the Northern General Hospital and the General Nephrology and Haemodialysis service in Chesterfield (part of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).The successful candidate will work across both services each week details of which will be discussed and agreed between the successful appointee and the Clinical Director/Clinical Leads via the job plan process.

You would be working as part of the of the busiest acute medicine services in the country as well as one of the largest renal units with a unique opportunity to facilitate collaborative working and integrate pathways between the two directorates. Opportunities may arise in the future the increase the nephrology workload within the post.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the posts; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Name on the specialist register for both general/acute internal medicine and renal medicine or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.

  • MD or PhD or equivalent

  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in general / acute internal medicine and renal medicine.
  • Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post plus any specific experience required for the post. For the nephrology aspect of the post, they need to possess clinical experience in general nephrology, haemodialysis and transplantation.

Research

Essential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Desirable

  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

Teaching and training

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels
