Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 23 October 2024

Job summary

Are you a dynamic and enthusiastic Band 2 or 3 working within an inpatient or therapy area? Do you feel like a new challenge or change of direction?

We are looking for people with proven skills or experience within either therapy practice or an inpatient ward environment who would like the opportunity to develop skills as a Senior Therapy Assistant. You must be able to manage a broad caseload, provide advice, education and support for patients and carers and MDT colleagues.

The role of a Senior Therapy Assistant is key within our teams, enabling us to deliver the right care to each patient focusing on their individual needs. Whilst supporting them to remain as independent and mobile as possible within the hospital environment, we support the planning of a smooth and timely discharge from hospital.

These posts will be based within the Surgery Division, working closely with the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy staff focussing on acute inpatient wards and will be expected to assess and treat patients within agreed caseloads and complete treatments with the qualified therapy staff and fellow unregistered staff.

Interview will be face to face with a practical element so you must be able to attend in person if successful at shortlisting.

Main duties of the job

These posts will involve assessing and moving and handling of patients with postural and mobility problems and deconditioning. The post holder will also contribute to planning safe and timely discharges, considering pathways and links to community services.

Acute Therapy Services provides a number of services over 7 days (including Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays). Although currently not running a weekend service in this team, the successful candidate may be expected to work on a weekend roster as part of their shift pattern in future.

Applicants must also be willing to perform a mix of clerical, domestic and patient related tasks.

You must be able to demonstrate: -

Current knowledge & skills within a relevant NHS inpatient or therapy speciality.

Excellent communication and collaborative team working skills.

Competency in Therapy or Clinical Support Worker practice.

Professional, patient-centred care.

Ability to act on own initiative, organise work and manage multiple tasks.

Calm approach to changing work situations.

Sound IT skills to facilitate daily use of electronic patient records and communication.

Able to motivate and teach patients.

About us

You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes a firm commitment to professional development of it's staff together with the provision of an excellent health and well-being support service.
