This post is to work within the Interventional Radiology department in a theatre like environment and so peri-operative experience, such as scrub and circulating roles, would be desirable. However this is not essential as we can offer training and support to gain these specialist skills in house.

We have an excellent and supportive Practice Educator who will assist with your orientation and on-going professional development.

We provide support for regional specialities including stroke emergency thrombectomy as part of the regional stroke service, stereotactic radiosurgery, and Pulmonary Hypertension Unit. We run approximately around 25 + sessions per week; providing a wide range of procedures, many of which are often highly innovative and complex. The nursing team provide support out of hours and weekends as part of a 24hr on call service.

The patient cohort is from all ages and specialties throughout the hospital, we also work closely with Sheffield Children's Hospital and Jessops Women's Hospital to provide specialist support when required.

Please be aware that successful candidates will be required to wear a lead apron as part of this role.

Main duties of the job

The role of interventional radiology nurse is key to the management and person centred care of patients pre, peri and post intervention and we are looking for qualified staff nurses who can deliver this very high standard of direct patient care.

The Radiology Department is based on 2 sites within STHFT - This role will be a cross site role.

The NGH site cares for patient undergoing a range of investigations and treatment procedures such as:-

  • Various GI procedure including PTC's/ GI stents and provides support for many of the trust's cancer pathways.
  • Fluoroscopy procedures such as barium enemas/swallows, Histograms and X-ray guided NG tubes.
  • Vertebroplasty and Musculoskeletal pain clinics
  • Ultrasound investigations and interventions, including biopsies and drainage as well as caring for patients pre and post procedure.
  • CT intervention including guided lung biopsies.
  • Emergency attending though Accident and Emergency

The RHH site also cares for patients undergoing the above investigations and procedures, as well as the following:-

  • Neuro angiography including coiling's, embolization and the expansion of the Thrombectomy service.
  • Urology interventions
  • Vascular intervention including basic line insertion and emergency vascular procedures
