Job summary

Chesterman 1 is a busy Cardiology ward which provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic and treatment services for the management of all aspects and presentations of coronary heart disease. The team works with specialised services within Cardiology to provide holistic integrated treatments serving both local and regional districts including Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and Bassetlaw.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE

  • The post holder will provide leadership and management for Chesterman 1 in patient provision.
  • Provide 24 hours continuing responsibility for Chesterman 1
  • Ensure that the highest possible quality care is delivered within Chesterman 1 and that it meets the expectations of individual patients.

ROLE OF THE DEPARTMENT

  • Provide high quality services to patients within ward Chesterman 1 and to patients in the wider speciality.

Essential

  • RGN Level one
  • NMC registered
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 or experience
  • Continuous professional development
  • First degree or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes)

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience In cardiology.
  • Relevant experience at sister/charge nurse level.
  • Specialist training relevant to working in an acute surgical setting.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a professional team

Desirable

  • Experience deputising for Senior Sister / Charge Nurse

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of relevant post basic training and continuous professional development
  • Ability to communicate effectively including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one-to-one basis, with groups, and the Multidisciplinary Team
  • Good understanding of the national strategic context of the NHS
