Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Safeguarding Adviser for the Safeguarding Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will support the Team to deliver a Safeguarding Service in line with the Trust's statutory role, responsibilities and commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults at risk who are patients or visitors to the Trust, and of staff members and their families.

To act as a focus of expertise to support and guide managers and staff to identify children and adults at risk, to take initial action to keep them safe and to make appropriate referrals to statutory and non-statutory agencies for additional support.

To support the development and implementation of Safeguarding policies and procedures as delegated by the Head of Safeguarding or Safeguarding Operational Lead, working together with key safeguarding professionals to improve outcomes for vulnerable service users.

Contribute where appropriate to data collection to support audit activity and quality assurance processes in relation to the Trust, ICB, CQC, Sheffield Adult and Children's Safeguarding Board and Domestic Abuse Strategic Board performance frameworks, ensuring the Trust meets the required deadlines for submission.

Main duties of the job

To provide telephone advice and support to staff where safeguarding concerns have been identified.

To assist with the screening of safeguarding concerns refer to the Safeguarding Hubs or other agencies for additional enquiry and support.

To support the delivery of Safeguarding training and promote the use of Trust and inter-agency policies and procedures.

To establish key working relationships internally and with partner agencies to support the safety of adults and children at risk.To support the Trust's responsibilities in relation to the work of the Sheffield Adult and Children Safeguarding Boards.

To contribute to the investigation and reporting of safeguarding incidents, complaints or serious untoward incidents related to the care of an adult or child at risk.

To contribute to Section 42 enquiries, internal management reviews required for the Safeguarding Adults Review, Safeguarding Children Practice Review and Domestic Homicide Review statutory process.

To work with a degree of autonomy across the five units within the Trust

To provide safeguarding advice and guidance, identifying emerging themes to inform future training.

Contribute to individual case discussions and supervision, escalating safeguarding concerns in accordance with local and national protocols and procedures.

  • Professional Qualification, Nurse Allied Health Professional, Social worker based in health or equivalent professional experience in a safeguarding role
  • First Degree or equivalent study
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.

Desirable

  • Masters degree or educated to Masters level
  • Facilitation Skills
  • Supervision skills

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post qualification experience.
  • Working knowledge of Safeguarding adults and children and related topics including Prevent
  • Working knowledge of MCA/DOLS/Best Interest
  • Evidence of team working and multi-agency working.
  • Evidence of the ability to communicate to all levels of staff.
  • Evidence of teaching/facilitating groups
  • Experience of influencing change
