Job summary

We are looking to appoint a whole time Consultant Plastic Surgeon with special interest in Breast Microsurgery Reconstruction, to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of benign and malignant breast surgery work, including microsurgical breast reconstruction, to ensure the continued development of the Sheffield breast surgery and reconstruction service at the Royal Hallamshire. Furthermore, the post holder will support the Trauma service at Northern General site for general plastic trauma and semi-elective conditions.

The appointee will be part of a trauma on-call rota (1:18) covering both Trusts involving Northern General, Royal Hallamshire and the Sheffield Children's hospital. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Department. The appointee will undertake outpatient clinics, elective operating sessions, ward round duties and supporting activities amounting to 10 programmed activities per week.

  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • GMC registered with General Surgery (Breast) or Plastic Surgery Specialty
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview
  • FRCS or equivalent
  • If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
