Job summary
We are looking to appoint to Locum Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The role is to commence as soon as possible for a 6 months fixed term.
We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The Breast Service is an integral part of the Plastic and Breast Surgery Directorate, based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The service includes an active Breast Screening Service. The new appointee will join a dedicated team of colleagues and work flexibly to assist the directorate in ensuring maximum utilisation of all resources and delivery of all access targets and key performance indicators. There is close collaboration with Plastic Surgery colleagues and multidisciplinary oncoplastic practice is expected.
The service treats approximately 580 new breast cancer diagnoses yearly, with an annual increase in new diagnoses of between 2% and 7%. Over one third of new patient diagnoses of breast cancer are screen detected. The service currently provides 150 new patient assessments per week. More than 800 surgical episodes (most of which are Day Case procedures) are performed annually.
We are seeking a candidate who will contribute to the provision of the oncoplastic breast surgery workload and work collaboratively with colleagues across the Directorate.
Research is encouraged and full facilities are available. Applications from those unable, for personal reasons, to work on a whole time basis or a job share basis will be considered.
