We are looking to appoint 5 whole time Substantive Consultant Oncologists to the Breast Cancer Service in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Weston Park Cancer Centre, with outreach clinics within the SYBND cancer alliance.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the posts; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Job plan opportunities for a second cancer sub-site for those who want to maintain interest in other sub specialities will also be supported considering service needs.

Main duties of the job

The hospital is home to busy inpatient and outpatient units, a hemotherapy day case unit, a large radiotherapy suite, and research centre. We also provide outpatient services within off-site clinical facilities and our neighbouring District General Hospital, as well as deliver SACT within five additional day case units across the region.

The appointee will join established multidisciplinary teams. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in our acute oncology and on-call services rota. The on-call frequency is currently 1:24 which equates to 0.111 PA.

The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract

The person appointed will take their equal share in providing emergency cover and will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Department.

  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
