Job summary

We are looking to appoint to Specialist Doctor in Geriatric Medicine to at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be primarily based at the Northern General Hospital, but may be required to work at both campuses in the Trust.

A medical degree or diploma from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution. Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practise. A minimum of 12 years medical work full time since obtaining a primary medical qualification (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least 6 of which will be in a relevant specialty working at Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years' experience with evidence of relevant competencies achieved in a related specialty from other medical grades including overseas will also be accepted.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a team of consultant geriatricians to deliver Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment for acutely admitted frail older patients. They will share a general Geriatric Medicine base ward with a consultant geriatrician and lead a team of junior doctors and non-medical practitioners. They will lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality and efficient care.

The successful candidate will assist the directorate in developing our liaison services, and a liaison geriatrics session will be job planned. The specifics of this session can be tailored to individuals' experience and interest.
